Lauren Manoogian Resort 2017 is another beautiful and well-tailored collection from our favorite knitwear designer. The simple and loose silhouettes that are signature mark of Manoogian’s eponymous label derive from the knitting process itself. Therefore, besides the line is produced extremely organically from its beginnings, the whole process of creation comes somehow naturally. The collections of a Brooklyn-based designer are currently made entirely in Peru, where Lauren is inspired by the many unconventional and traditional resources. These methods intersect on many levels with her own personal techniques and the designer is enthusiastic about translating the traditional ways into the modern, wearable and simple clothing.
Lauren Manoogian Resort 2017 rediscovers some of our favorite pieces in the updated versions, as The Capote Coat or The Lounger. The other ones, in the beautiful lookbook modeled by Mari Giudicelli, that deserve a new spotlight (the Tami Jacket or Kendo Coat) don’t go far away from the aesthetic of label and muted color palette. Since the brand started practically with zero funding, creativeness with less, but also the assortment, scale, and repetition of collections have been seen as challenge. Today, as the line is growing, the opportunities to invest in materials arise, but also are bringing bigger responsibility towards what is being put into the world. The challenge now is to have a sustainable, scalable business on many levels rather than just be sustaining, while at the same time resisting the pressure to live up to unrealistic status quo of the fashion industry.
