Formerly unveiled in 2015, during Tokyo Design Week, the MUJI Hut concept was created with the intention to provide a shelter for the basic and simple living. Somewhere between the vision of owning a house in the nature or having a serene vacation, MUJI Hut becomes the reality of a dream about a house that can be nestled in the mountains, or settled near the ocean.
Inviting inhabitants to a whole new approach to living, the interior of first hut measures just 9m2. With a porch and a high shed roof, the tiny hut becomes a space large enough for 3–4 people. The hut is made from Japanese wood with outer clad in burnt cedar wood, the technique borrowed from the traditional art of Japanese shipbuilding. Open to a landscape with sliding doors, MUJI invites people to immerse into this new idea of composed living, formed around the philosophy of uniting with nature.
