This small minimalist house in Hyogo Prefecture is one of our favorite examples of the smart Japanese minimalist architecture. The clever division of the space, charming features, and façade are what makes this minimalist and modern Japanese house noteworthy.
Like a vertical loft, this open space of 96.88 square meters is built on a construction area of 35 square meters. The interior design of the house is equally interesting because the architectural elements of the space such as stairs, laundry space, closets, hand rails, and toilets are made as if they are furniture. Architect Yo Shimada’s goal was to create a space where a variety of things can be brought in and used spontaneously in everyday life. An important feature of the modern small house is the impressive staircase that maximizes usable area and brings rich spatial experience.
